Resurrection Parish Religious Education Program ( PREP )

We  offer classes to students in grades 1 - 8 who attend public or private (non-parochial) school whose families are enrolled parishioners of the Church of the Resurrection.

The content for each grade follows the Archdiocesan Guidelines for Catechesis and gives a developmental presentation of the faith for each grade level.  PREP is designed to assist parents in their sacred responsibility to educate their children in the Catholic faith and complete their initiation into the One Holy Catholic Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.

Our program is more than a means to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation.  It is ongoing, continuing development of the Christian personality.  The Sacraments are an integral part of the Christian life and each grade in religious education adds to the development of the Christian Life.

Special Religious Education

"Concern for people with disabilities was one of the prominent notes of Jesus' earthly ministry...Persons with disabilities become witnesses for Christ, His healing of their bodies a sign of the spiritual healing He brought to all people."

(Pastoral Statement of US Catholic Bishops on People with Disabilities #4)

As the Archdiocese of New York Catechetical Office states: "Ministry with persons with disabilities is rooted in the sacred truth that every human being is created in the image and likeness of God. Jesus' ministry was marked by care and concern for those with special needs. They responded to his healing ministry and became his disciples."

PREP recognizes the ministry of special religious education, as one that responds to the religious and spiritual needs of persons with physical, mental, or emotional disability. Such students may need individualized instruction, a one-to-one setting or may be mainstreamed with appropriate assistance. Placement of students will be determined by the DRE after consultation with the parent.
