Summary of Requirements for All Grade 8 PREP 2019 Confirmation Candidates

 

1.) Mandatory Parent & Candidate Meeting

A mandatory Parent/Candidate meeting for Confirmation will be held in late Spring, the year prior to the Confirmation date. All Registered 7th Grade Prep students will be notified of meeting dates. Parent/Candidate must attend one meeting. A Confirmation Parent Packet will be given out at that time


2.) Mass Attendance  -  Every Sunday for the year leading up to Confirmation

All candidates for Confirmation are required to attend Mass every week. Mass attendance records are kept through May 2019. The attendance cards should be returned to the PRIEST at Mass each week, or attached to a Mass bulletin from another Parish SIGNED by a PRIEST at that Parish. 


3.) Investiture Contract & Mass 

The investiture contract has five points which parents and candidate must read and review together. The candidate signs the contract as an acceptance of their desire to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Resurrection Middle School & PREP students will sign this contract in class prior to the Investiture Mass. Private Catholic students should be review this at home with parents, sign and return to the PREP office before the Mass. Investiture contracts will be presented to Monsignor Donald M. Dwyer, Pastor at the Mass.


4.) Confirmation Retreat participation - 6 per year, Candidates must be register on this website by 9/27/2018

5.) Confirmation Name and Saint Report - Submit to class (Private Catholic Students please email to: confirmation@resurrectionrectory.com)

Students will choose a Confirmation name as a sign of their growth in faith. The name must be the name of a Saint, or a variation of that name.  Students research and prepare a single page report, typed and double-spaced on the Saint whose name they have chosen, detailing information on that Saint, explaining why they chose his/her name, and including how, by imitating the qualities of this Saint, they can be a better Christian. 


6.) Community Service and Report -  20 hours & Report  due.

7.) Candidate Letter to Monsignor Dwyer Due in class January 2019.

Each candidate is required to type a letter to Monsignor Dwyer, stating their desire to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. The letter should include reasons why they would like to be confirmed, how they have prepared for the sacrament, why they feel they are ready, and how they will continue to carry out their faith and make it real and alive in the future.


8.) Sponsor Letter - Due by email  to  

Each candidate will select a sponsor that will present him/her to the Bishop on the day of their Confirmation, and will then commit to the responsibility of helping his/her candidate continue to fulfill the obligations and teachings of the Catholic faith. The sponsor for any candidate may be male or female, be at least 16 years of age, belong to the Catholic Church, and has received the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.  Sponsors must write a letter to Monsignor Dwyer, accepting this most important role and stating why they would make a good sponsor. This letter should be emailed to Monsignor Dwyer at . The letter should be addressed to: Rye PREP, Church of the Resurrection, 910 Boston Post Rd, Rye, NY 10580

Please note: a parent may not be chosen as a Confirmation sponsor for their child.


9.) Confirmation Test - Early May date before Confirmation to be announced

The Confirmation Test will be administered to all candidates in early May, the specific date is to be announced. The study guide will be distributed six weeks in advance of the test to all students. PREP and Private Catholic School Students take the test in the Lower Church Hall at 7pm to 8pm. Arrival time for the test is 6:50pm.  Students should bring two No. 2 pencils. This test is taken by Resurrection Middle School candidates during the school day. The study guide will be distributed six weeks in advance of the test to all students.


10.)Confirmation Rehearsal - Wednesday before Confirmation: 4:50 pm Group A and 6:00 pm Group B.

Rehearsals begin in the Lower Church Hall.  Confirmation candidates accompanied by their sponsor must attend this rehearsal. In the absence of the sponsor, a parent must accompany their child. Students are assigned to Group A or B by the DRE. 


11.) Confirmation Day - Sunday June 2, 2019 at 12:30pm Group A and at 3:15pm Group B

Bishop Gerald T. Walsh will preside over two Confirmation ceremonies at the Church of the Resurrection on Sunday June 2, 2019. Confirmation candidates with their sponsors assemble in the Lower Church Hall 30 minutes before their scheduled ceremonies.


12.) Confirmation Certificate Mass -  Sunday, June 9, 2019 at 10:00am  

The students and parents of the Confirmation class of 2019 are required to attend this Mass to be acknowledged as the newly confirmed of our parish.  Following the Mass, the Confirmation Certificates will be presented.
